The AI visibility check asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude the questions your customers ask, such as “best coffee roaster in Portland”, and checks whether Google’s AI Overviews cite you for your keywords. It shows:
- whether each engine mentions you, recommends you, or leaves you out, and your position in its list
- which competitors it names instead
- whether it knows you from memory or only finds you through live search
- which sources it cites
Where the questions come from. Each audit starts by reading your site: what you are, what you sell, who it’s for and who you compete with. The questions come from that reading. What you write in your business profile adds context, but your site leads.
Free and paid. On a free account, ChatGPT and Perplexity search the web for each question, the way their apps do, while Claude and Gemini answer from memory; you get one AI check a month. When a lot of free audits run on the same day, the AI part of a free audit can wait until the next day; your site checks are ready right away, and we email you when the AI results land. Paid plans let every tool search the web, ask each question in two phrasings, re-ask every week and fact-check what all four tools say about you. Answers come through each provider’s official API and can differ a little from the consumer apps.
Competitors. We count only businesses that compete with you. When your site does several jobs, like a text expander that also keeps notes, competitors are grouped by job.
Fact-checking. When an engine describes you, we pull out each fact it states, compare it with your site, and show the two side by side: correct, wrong, or not on your site.
Ask AI why. Open any answer and ask that AI tool about it. The question fits the result: why it left you out, why it mentioned you without recommending you, what would put you first, or why it picks you. We test every reason against your site and label it confirmed, already on your site, or can’t verify.
Follow-up questions. After any answer you can type your own question to the same AI tool, such as “what would you need to see on my site?”. We send it with your original question and that tool’s answer, so it replies in context; asking the tool yourself would start from scratch. Each question, and each follow-up, uses one ask from your monthly allowance, which is shown at the top of the AI visibility page.
Bing. On paid plans, the search page shows where you rank on Bing beside Google for each keyword. Bing feeds ChatGPT search and Microsoft Copilot, so it is a direct signal for AI answers.
AI readiness. The AI readiness page grades how ready your site is for AI tools, from checks on the site itself, the same on every plan. It covers five areas: can AI reach you (robots.txt, server blocks and tags, one row per AI crawler), can AI read you (what a crawler sees without JavaScript), does AI understand you (structured data and clear wording), will AI quote you (direct answers, FAQs, comparison pages, prices, fresh content) and does AI trust you (About, contact, policies, authors, matching business details). Below the grade, three signals from your AI check: which of the questions we asked AI your pages answer directly (and on which page), which of your pages AI tools linked to, and whether Wikidata and Wikipedia know your business. We check llms.txt too, but it doesn’t change your score, because almost no AI crawler reads it today.
Watching an audit run. While an audit runs you see each step as it happens: the pages being read, what we learned about your business, the questions we’re asking, and each AI tool’s answer as it comes in. Then your score.
Can AI tools read your site? Every report, free scan included, shows one tile per AI tool: it can read your site, it partly can, or it’s blocked. This comes from your robots.txt, your server’s answers to AI crawlers and your page markup, so it needs no AI answer at all. When a tool is blocked, the reason is written under the tiles.
Where AI tools disagree. The same question often gets different answers: Gemini recommends you while ChatGPT leaves you out. For each question where that happens, we name every tool that left you out and the likeliest cause, checked against your site: a blocked crawler, a tool answering from memory while another searched the web and found you, or a competitor named instead. When nothing on your site explains it, you can ask that tool why.
Sharing your score. Select Share this score on any report to get a link with a score card. The link shows the score, which AI tools can read the site and the top 3 fixes. It never shows your email. In your account you can turn a link off at any time.
Checking a competitor. The free AI competitor check asks the same AI tools the questions a rival’s customers ask, and shows where the rival wins, who else gets named, and which of its pages get cited.
