How to get your business recommended by Gemini

Gemini draws on Google's index and its own training. What it needs from your site, what Google-Extended changes, and how to check what it says about you.

Gemini answers from two places: what its models learned in training, and, for many questions, Google Search results it looks up at the time. Both start with Google being able to read your site.

1. Googlebot can read your site

Gemini’s live answers lean on Google’s index. If robots.txt blocks Googlebot, or your pages carry noindex, Gemini has little of yours to look up. This is the same foundation as ranking in Google Search, so if you rank, you’re most of the way there.

2. Decide on Google-Extended on purpose

Google-Extended is the robots.txt token Google uses for AI. Google says it controls whether your pages are used to train future Gemini models and for grounding in Gemini apps, and that it does not affect Google Search.

Some sites block it to keep content out of AI training. That is a fair business choice, but know the cost: Gemini apps may then draw less on your own pages and more on what others say about you. Our scan marks Gemini as only partly able to use your site when Google-Extended is blocked, so the trade-off is visible.

3. Say plainly what you are and where

Gemini, like the other AI tools, recommends businesses it can describe with confidence. Your homepage should state what you do, for whom, and where, in a sentence a model can quote. Organization or LocalBusiness markup with your name, address, hours and links to your official profiles backs that sentence up.

4. Keep your facts consistent

If your site, your Google Business Profile and directory listings give three different phone numbers or names, a model has to guess. Consistent details across your own pages are the part you control directly, and the scan compares them for you.

Check what Gemini says

Ask Gemini the question your customers ask and see who it names. A free account asks Gemini and four other AI tools those questions, shows whether you’re mentioned or recommended, and checks every claim they make about you against your site.
